81-year-old taken to hospital after crash with sewer truck

IONA — An 81-year-old man was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after crashing into a sewer truck.

According to a news release from the Idaho State Police, deputies are investigating a two-car crash that occurred at 3:31 p.m at the intersection of US Highway 26 and North 45th East, just north of Iona.

An 81-year-old man from Idaho Falls was reportedly driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 northbound on North 45th East, and a 27-year-old man from Idaho Falls and a 22-year-old male passenger from Iona were driving westbound on US-26 in a 2015 Western Star Sewer truck.

The driver of the Dodge failed to yield, reportedly causing the cars to collide in the intersection.

The 81-year-old was transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital, while the driver and passenger of the Western Star Sewer truck were transported to the hospital by a private party.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger of the sewer truck was.

The left eastbound lane was blocked for approximately two hours, and the eastbound lanes are back open.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Power, Bonneville County EMS, Bonneville County Fire, and Idaho State Transportation Department.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
