Man sentenced for attacking woman with bleach, attempting to strangle her

IDAHO FALLS – A 36-year-old man was sentenced after attacking a woman with bleach in 2022.
District Judge Dane Watkins Jr. sentenced Adam Keith Rhoades to a minimum of two and a maximum of six years.
However, Watkins retained jurisdiction in the case, meaning Rhoades will complete a rider treatment program. Once the program is finished, the judge can decide to send Rhaodes to prison for the remainder of his sentence or release him on probation.
Rhoades was initially charged with felony attempted strangulation, felony battery, and a misdemeanor no-contact order violation.
A plea agreement was reached in August, stating Rhoades agreed to plead guilty to the felony battery and misdemeanor no-contact violation charges if the prosecution agreed to drop the charge of felony attempted strangulation.
Background
On June 29, 2022, a Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic disturbance on North Contor Avenue.
The reporting party told dispatch Rhoades had beaten up a woman with a no-contact order against him.

The deputy went to the home and met with the victim, who was “sobbing and appeared confused,” according to court documents.
She said Rhoades had come over, they got into an argument, and he “dumped a Rockstar energy drink on her head” and then choked her.
The victim said Rhoades smacked her phone out of her hand, punched her in the nose, dumped bleach on the back of her head, and then pulled a knife out while he threatened to “slit her throat” from “ear to ear.
After being choked, the victim said Rhoades told her, “I should just kill you.”
Rhoades was arrested later that day and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
Initially, when being interviewed, Rhoades claimed he went to help the victim clean, but the victim got angry and threw bleach at him.
He later changed his story and admitted to throwing bleach at her and hitting the phone out of her hand but said he did not hit or choke her.
